NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A day after the Tennessee Titans fired Brian Callahan and named Mike McCoy his replacement in the interim, McCoy addressed the Titans fanbase.
“I can promise you, we’re going to work our tails off every day we walk in this facility as a coaching staff, as players, to go out there and do whatever we can to give us our best opportunity to win a football game,” McCoy said. “That’s what it’s all about. It’s about winning.”
McCoy preached togetherness and accountability as the two pillars of his coaching philosophy.
The former San Diego Chargers head coach then outlined how he plans to fix the Titans’ struggling offense.
“Well, that’s going to be our number one focus is how do we get Cam (Ward) to be more efficient and have more success,” said McCoy.

“But it’s not just him. There’s 10 other guys on the field with him that have got to do their jobs better, too. So we all have to do our jobs better, coaching, playing, everybody. But I think there’s the good and the bad. And as a young player, as a rookie, there’s going to be some bumps in the road. It’s going to happen,” he said. “I mean, it doesn’t matter what position you’re going to play in this league, especially quarterback’s the hardest position to play. So, there’s some really good things, and then there’s somethings that you want to say, ‘What are we doing?’ But the number-one focus has got to be, OK, how do we minimize the mistakes and get more of the good, more production? But that’s all 11 on offense working together and being more efficient.”
The Titans get back on the practice field on Wednesday.
McCoy’s first game as interim head coach will be Sunday against a former Titans head coach, Mike Vrabel, and the New England Patriots.
Kickoff is at 12 p.m. at Nissan Stadium.
