Dallas Mavericks sign Jason Kidd to multi-year contract extension

The Dallas Mavericks have a big 2025-26 NBA season coming up. There is pressure on the team to deliver success after GM Nico Harrison made one of the most shocking trades in league history. It will also be No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg’s rookie season, bringing added expectation and excitement.

Through all this change, the head coaching position is set to remain constant. Jason Kidd has been the head coach of the Mavericks for over four years now, and his tenure will continue. Reports on Tuesday suggest that the Mavericks have signed a new multi-year contract extension with Kidd.

NBA insider Marc Stein broke the news regarding Kidd’s new deal. The former superstar NBA point guard was also quick to share his thoughts, with another reporter sharing the HC’s statement.

“I’m grateful for the belief that Patrick and Nico have in me, and the trust we’ve built while working together to construct a team that Dallas can be proud of,” the statement reads. “We have a great group of players here who love basketball, are talented, and coachable.

“There’s mutual respect across all departments, and Patrick and Nico set the tone for what we are trying to accomplish here. It’s even more special that I can continue to coach the team that drafted me, and where I was able to win a title as a player. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead and continuing to work toward bringing another championship back to Dallas.”

In four seasons with the Mavericks, JKidd has led them to the NBA Finals once and the Western Conference Finals once. The upcoming campaign will be his first without Luka Doncic leading the team, too. If Kidd can replicate his prior successes with his new roster, this won’t be the last contract extension he signs in his career.
