The Indianapolis Colts are almost inarguably the biggest surprise in the NFL thus far. After six weeks of the regular season, the Colts are 5-1 and in sole possession of first place in the AFC. Daniel Jones beat out Anthony Richardson Sr. for the starting job and now looks like one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
Richardson suffered an orbital fracture prior to Week Six’s game against the Arizona Cardinals and landed on the injured reserve. Now, not only has he been replaced on the depth chart, but he’s been replaced on the roster as well.
“The Colts plan to sign veteran quarterback Brett Rypien to the practice squad, per sources. Rypien, last with Cincinnati, provides depth for Indy’s QB room with Anthony Richardson to IR,” [reported ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.](https://x.com/JFowlerESPN/status/1978231966639014344)
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Some overlap. When the vikings signed DJ to the practice squad last year, they had to waive Rypien,” one fan noted on Twitter.
“One Darnold Away from a Vikings QB room,” someone else added.
“Four career starts, 11 career appearances. Experience gives him a potential edge over Riley Leonard, I guess. But my advice would be just keep Daniel Jones upright’ another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Rypien is ever forced into action in Indianapolis.
