Draymond Green makes wild partying admission about early NBA career

Enjoying a long career at the highest level of sports means constantly keeping one’s body in the best possible shape. Many NBA stars make endless sacrifices and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to that end. One of the big things that a lot of them try to avoid is alcohol, although that certainly doesn’t apply to all.

LeBron James and Jimmy Butler, among others, famously love their wine. 3-time MVP Nikola Jokic has become famous for his legendary partying clips, especially during the offseason. But it seems that a lot of this depends on age, as Golden State Warriors Draymond Green admitted during a recent media appearance.

“I’ve been out night before a game, drank till 6 in the morning, and have a triple-double, when I was younger in the league,” Green said. But during the playoffs, I don’t really do much of nothing. When it’s the playoffs, that’s business.

“You can’t be out here drinking or going out the night before games when the season is on the line. I see dudes out before playoff games, and I just think, if you can’t wait one week to drink, you’re not serious.”

Being able to celebrate and enjoy is key for even the greatest players to maintain balance in their lives. But Green’s words reveal a fundamental truth: timing is the key. It’s wild to think that Draymond was hungover while dropping big performances when he was younger. But when it was time to lock in, he kept all that to the side. That’s likely why he has four championship rings.
