October 14 – Barcelona has revealed its latest partnership with the music industry, dueting with Ed Sheeran for a special-edition shirt that will make its debut in the Clásico against Real Madrid later this month.
In recent seasons, Barça’s iconic shirt has been a billboard for musical acts, Drake, Rosalía, The Rolling Stones, and Coldplay, turning one of football’s most iconic jerseys into a commercial for global music.
The Ed Sheeran-inspired shirt will feature iconography from the singer’s upcoming album _Play_. The shirt will be worn at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 26 as part of Barça’s ongoing partnership with Spotify. The women’s side will showcase the same design a week earlier in their Liga F
“Seeing my new album _Play_ on the Barça shirt is something I’m proud of,” said Sheeran. “I’m a huge fan of football and Barcelona. I love that we get to merge the worlds of music and football in such a fun way.”
One wonders how the ‘Tractor Boys’ faithful feel about Sheeran’s flirtations with the Catalonians, as he is a minority investor in his hometown club Ipswich Town and has been a driver of the club’s fandom and revenue lines. Until recently, his math-themed world tour also graced the shirts of the Championship side.
Barcelona will release 1,899 limited-edition jerseys signifying the club’s founding year, alongside a capsule collection inspired by the album’s artwork.
“Ed’s music has long been part of our dressing-room playlist,” said Barca striker Robert Lewandowski. “Music and football both bring fans together in powerful ways. I’m proud to represent that connection on the pitch.”
