Jason Kidd has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks, who enters his fifth season as head coach. Kidd guided the Mavs to a 52-30 record and a trip to the 2022 Western Conference Finals. In his third season, he led the team to a 50-32 finish, securing a spot in the 2024 NBA Finals.

“I’m grateful for the belief that Patrick and Nico have in me, and the trust we’ve built while working together to construct a team that Dallas can be proud of,” Kidd shared in a statement on the news. “We have a great group of players here who love basketball, are talented and coachable. It’s even more special that I can continue to coach the team that drafted me, and where I was able to win a title as a player. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead and continuing to work toward bringing another championship back to Dallas.”

During his tenure as head coach, Kidd has has displayed adaptability, player development skills, and calm leadership under pressure. Players have ton of respect for Jason Kidd not only for his career but for the unique player-first perspective he brings to coaching, allowing players freedom, oppose to micromanaging each player. His experience as a Hall of Famer and winning a NBA championship allows him to relate to his team based on his pedigree alone. Kidd’s ability to create a strong locker room environment among difficult environments allows players to thrive under his command.
