Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry announced Tuesday that the team has picked up the third-year option on Devin Carter’s contract.
The Kings drafted Carter, 23, out of Providence with the 13th pick in the 2024 NBA draft. The 6-foot-2 guard is entering his second season with the Kings after his rookie campaign was cut short due to a shoulder injury.
The Kings had until Oct. 31 to pick up Carter’s third-year option. He is owed $4.9 million this season and $5.2 million next season with a $7.3 million team option in 2027-28.
Carter missed summer league, training camp and the start of his rookie season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder in July 2024. He returned in January to appear in 26 games, averaging 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.6 steals in 11.0 minutes per contest.
Carter played a key role in leading the Kings to the championship game at this year’s Las Vegas Summer League. He appeared in all six games, averaging 14.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.7 steals.
Carter started his college career at South Carolina and later transferred to Providence. He was named Big East Conference Player of the Year in 2024 after averaging 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals while shooting 47.3% from the field and 37.7% from 3-point range on 6.9 attempts per game.
