Jayden Daniels’ late-game fumble on Monday ruined the Washington Commanders’ hope, as it set up the Chicago Bears’ drive for a game-winning field goal. The Bears secured a 25-24 win and improved to 3-2 on the 2025 season, while the Commanders dropped to 3-3.

NBA superstar and Commanders fan Kevin Durant shared his short take on the loss to share his thoughts on Daniels’ play.
“Every time 5 throw a deep ball, I think it’s a bucket. Pause. Here we go Manders,” Durant tweeted.

The key moment came on a 3rd-and-1 play when Daniels lost the ball, which gave Chicago possession with roughly three minutes left. From there, the Bears led a decisive drive that set up Jake Moody for a 38-yard field goal to secure the win.
Daniels accepted responsibility for the mistake in his postgame conference.
“I just lost the ball, completely my fault,” Danielssaid. “I didn’t give Bill [Croskey-Merritt] a chance, so it was my fault.”
The loss was especially disappointing for Daniels, who had delivered one of the most memorable wins of his young career in 2024. It was a last-second Hail Mary touchdown against the same Bears team, when his deep throw was tipped into Noah Brown’s hands for an 18-15 win.
Jayden Daniels seeks optimism following Week 6 loss
In 2024, Jayden Daniels earned the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and helped lead Washington to the NFC Championship Game.
This season, Week 6 marked the first time Daniels’ absence of top playmakers truly showed, but he remains optimistic.
“I’m not going to sit up here and blame it on the elements,” Daniels said. “At the end of the day, I have to focus. I get paid to go out there and focus on playing the play out. I had a lack of focus right there, and it cost us the game.
“If you win or you lose, you can always learn from stuff, and you go out and be better. I’m not a perfect player because there’s no perfect player on this field or this league.”
Turnovers proved costly on Monday night, as Chicago capitalized for 13 of its 25 points off Washington’s mistakes. The Commanders will aim to clean that up when they face Dallas next Sunday.
