Arsenal and Manchester City are among the clubs chasing Club Tijuana’s Gilberto Mora.
The 17-year-old came through the ranks of the Mexican club’s academy and made his way into their first team in 2024. He’s played 41 matches so far, scoring seven times and registering two assists. Mora has already made his debut for Mexico’s senior team.
Wednesday’s edition of Sport have a report on Arsenal, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid interest in Mora.
The attacking midfielder impressed at the U20 World Cup. Mexico were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Argentina, managing three goals and two assists from five matches.
The youngster is represented by Rafaela Pimenta, who has good ties with Barcelona president Joan Laporta. As well as the La Liga winners, Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid have positioned themselves to secure his services. He’s also been tempted by the MLS and specifically Inter Miami.
If Arsenal, Manchester City or another club were to reach an agreement with Tijuana, the player won’t be able to arrive in Europe until he turns 18 in October 2026.
Mora won’t make a decision on his future in the short-term and this favours Barca. They don’t seem to be in a position to immediately battle with other clubs.
Sport end their report by stating: ‘Laporta and Deco will be kept informed of the latest developments with this ambidextrous player with exquisite technique, goal-scoring prowess, and exceptional vision. The game, then, has only just begun.’
One to keep an eye on.
