Why Ousmane Dembélé’s contract extension talks with PSG risk being tense

_1_

Ousmane Dembélé’s (28) current contract at Paris Saint-Germain runs until the summer of 2028. Ordinarily, there wouldn’t be a great rush to renew it, however, the Frenchman’s recent Ballon d’Or win changes the situation.

Unlike his contracts at Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, internal sources at Paris Saint-Germain have told [**L’Équipe**](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Comment-le-nouveau-statut-d-ousmane-dembele-ballon-d-or-va-peser-dans-les-negociations-de-son-contrat-avec-le-psg/1601627) that Dembélé’s contract at the club does not include a Ballon d’Or clause. However, Dembélé, after winning the prestigious individual prize back in September, is looking to renegotiate his current deal with _Les Parisiens._

His entourage, **L’Équipe** understands, are asking for a significant increase in salary, due to his performances and, of course, his new status as the best player in the world. PSG are open to the idea and willing to increase his salary, but not to the levels of Neymar’s contract, or that signed by Lionel Messi when he joined from Barcelona. Those mega deals are something that PSG have looked to put in the past; the European champions will not break the bank.

However, because of the new sporting strategy instilled by Luís Campos, talks between PSG and Dembélé could be tense over the coming weeks.
