Ian Wright shares his initial impressions of Everton’s new stadium after first time visiting

Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium has welcomed lots of high-profile first-time visitors this season.

Martin Tyler was in awe of Everton’s new stadium for his first commentary there, and it helped that Jack Grealish scored a last-minute winner against Crystal Palace to really give him the full experience of the atmosphere.

Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy couldn’t help but like the Hill Dickinson, too, and Aston Villa manager Unai Emery was also very complimentary about it.

Now, Ian Wright has shared his experience of visiting the 52,000-seater stadium for the first time as Everton’s Women played there against Manchester United on the weekend.

Ian Wright documents his first visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium

Former Arsenal striker and now well-known television pundit Ian Wright shared a video on his X account about his experience at Everton’s new ground.

Wright admitted he was glad Goodison Park wasn’t demolished.

“Obviously, for me, Goodison Park and being able to play at Goodison Park and scoring goals at Goodison Park is… I’m so pleased that that’s not being demolished because the women are going to get to use that. That’s fantastic for them.”

My first time at the brilliant Hill Dickinson Stadium. I promised @ornella_10_ that I’d come to watch when I next could. Thank you @EvertonWomen

The 61-year-old was captured around all parts of the stadium and met with Toffees star Ornella Vignola in the tunnel afterwards.

Wright appeared to enjoy his visit, although disappointed at the result, as Everton suffered a 4-1 defeat to Man United in the Women’s Super League.

What David Moyes has said about the Hill Dickinson Stadium

Leaving Goodison Park was always going to be emotional for Everton supporters, but it really feels as though the new ground has been embraced.

Speaking earlier in the season, David Moyes admitted it does feel like home.

“I think it does (feel like home),” Moyes said.

“It’s going to take a bit of us getting used to it completely but it’s a great stadium and hopefully it’s a chance to see some really good players and good teams in future.

“It’s brilliant for the football club. For my journey as well – I’ve had lots of different twists and turns – but overall I think the football club has been so desperate for this situation to arise with the new stadium. I think it’s a wonderful stadium, it’s a step up, certainly, from Goodison and I think for Everton Football Club it’s a real positive step.”
