Ferland Mendy rejoins Real Madrid squad in training

Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy rejoined the group in training this Tuesday, 170 days after he suffered a muscle injury during the 2025 Copa del Rey Final against FC Barcelona. The French left-back will now try to improve his form and his conditioning after spending almost half a year on the sidelines, but he could get his first minutes later this month.

While Mendy is not expected to be a relevant player for Real Madrid this year, he could potentially be an option to play as a center-back if Xabi Alonso decides to use the 3-5-2 formation. Both Álvaro Carreras and Fran García appear to be ahead of him in the rotation for the left-back spot.

Mendy signed a contract extension with Real Madrid immediately after the team conquered the 2024 UEFA Champions League title, and while said extension was never formally announced, the French defender will stay at the club at least until 2027.
