ESPN’s Adam Schefter just gave the 3–3 Chiefs an unbelievable title

For all of the weeping and gnashing of teeth, for all of the sackcloth and ashes, for all of the complaints that we've all made about various concerns regarding the Kansas City Chiefs, overall belief in the team hasn't wavered all that much six games into the 2025 season.

The Chiefs are currently outside of the playoff picture in the AFC coming into Week 7. If the season were to somehow end early, the Chiefs would not make the postseason because they're in third place in the AFC West behind the L.A. Chargers and Denver Broncos at 3-3 overall. They've struggled on offense, struggled more on defense, and have dealt with myriad special teams headaches.

Yet somehow, they've made a believer out of everyone.

Schefter labels the Chiefs as the NFL's best team through six games.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Not only are the teams with the best Super Bowl odds at present, but ESPN's Adam Schefter is claiming them as the best team when asked to rank the NFL's franchises coming into a new slate of games. In an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, [Schefter recently said](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1978126693681316084), "I'm going to take the Kansas City Chiefs as the number one team in football right now."

Schefter's full list, for the sake of interest, came down to the following teams:

1. Kansas City Chiefs

2. Detroit Lions

3. St. Louis Rams

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

5. Indianapolis Colts

6. New England Patriots

Now, let's be honest: that list looks weird for more than one reason. In fact, taking the Chiefs up top might be the smartest play on the list.

The Baltimore Ravens' crash was unforeseen, and Joe Burrow's injury robbed the Cincinnati Bengals of whatever life they had in them for contention. But the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers are both respectable teams who were preseason Super Bowl faves, and it feels silly to leave them off the list entirely—no matter how good Daniel Jones and the Colts have fared. And have we somehow forgotten about the defending Super Bowl champs, the Philadelphia Eagles?

As for the Chiefs, it helps their stock to have won three of their last four games. The offense has also sprang to life with the return of Xavier Worthy from injury, and Patrick Mahomes looks like he could mount a serious MVP run. That's before Rashee Rice also joins the team for the upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7 following a six-game suspension to start the year.

Despite never claiming a winning record so far in 2025, Schefter believes the Chiefs are the best team in football. That's both credit to K.C.'s body of work in recent seasons as well as the parity in the NFL today. We've got a feeling that he's right.
