A Man United player could leave in January to make space for an England hopeful to join.

Manchester United will be looking ahead to the January window with a level of optimism, as their form has improved under Ruben Amorim, and there being some minor signs of development at Old Trafford.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the higher-ups at United seem to be behind Amorim, meaning they will likely back him in the January transfer market as they did in the summer, to help him bolster his squad. The midfield position is a big area of concern, as Amorim hasn’t found a reliable option to play alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Man Utd could sign Bellingham if Mainoo leaves

It is no secret that Mainoo wants to leave United in January to look for more minutes; however, the Red Devils don’t want to allow an exit, even though Amorim hasn’t been using him much. According to a fresh update by TEAMtalk, Man United remain firm and won’t sanction an exit for Mainoo in January, even though he wants to leave.

This seems a puzzling decision from United, as a Mainoo exit could make space for them to bring in a new defensive midfielder who Amorim could actually use. One such name would be Jobe Bellingham, who could be set for an exit from Borussia Dortmund just six months after joining the German club from Sunderland.

Bellingham reportedly wants to leave, and could be available on loan in January, with Man United and Crystal Palace named as interested parties by German outlet Bild. The logical move would be to loan Mainoo out, and then bring Bellingham in; He could provide Amorim with that physical presence that United lacks in midfield.

Bellingham’s frustrations since his move to Dortmund mean he could well be ready to move on in Jnuary.

Why this move would benefit Man Utd, Mainoo and Bellingham

Firstly, let’s start with Man United. As things stand, there is no point keeping Mainoo on the bench if he isn’t playing, and so the player could develop more elsewhere on loan, which would benefit United in the future, as he could improve. Secondly, they would be able to bring in Bellingham, who could fill the hole next to Bruno Fernandes for the remainder of the season.

The move would benefit Mainoo because he would be free to go somewhere else to regular minutes whether that be in the Premier League or elsewhere, we have seen loan moves work for out-of-sorts players in recent years, just look at Jack Grealish at Everton for example.

Finally, Bellingham would get his move away from Dortmund, which he reportedly wants, and more regular football. It would potentially benefit him to play in England again, too, as it could give him an outside shot at making Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, should he perform well at Old Trafford.
