Victor Wembanyama has been focused on adding muscle since he began his NBA career two years ago, and the San Antonio Spurs star may even be working on playing more like Shaq.
Wembanyama had 27 points and 11 rebounds in just 25 minutes during the Spurs’ 124-108 preseason win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday night. He showed off his strength in the first quarter when he created separation from Pacers forward Isaiah Jackson in the post and then threw down a dunk.
Many people noted that the dunk looked Shaq-like. Wembayama threw down a two-handed slam and kicked his legs out the exact same way Shaquille O’Neal used to do during his Hall of Fame career.

The Spurs’ latest official roster suggests Wembanyama has undergone quite the body transformation over the summer. The former No. 1 overall pick is even listed at two inches taller than he was last year, though one former San Antonio player seems to think that is a lie. Wembanyama has also claimed he has bulked up, and it looked like it on that particular dunk.
Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists across 46 games last year before a blood clot issue derailed his season. His 3.8 blocks per game were the most in a single season this century.
If Wembanyama truly is entering the 2025-26 season a lot stronger, that would be bad news for the rest of the NBA.
