Chelsea are in negotiations with midfielder Moises Caicedo to agree a new long-term contract amid reported interest from Real Madrid and others.
Enzo Maresca will be keen to keep hold of Caicedo as he has been one of the Blues’ best players so far this season. Caicedo has scored three goals in seven Premier League games for Chelsea, showing himself to be one of the best midfielders in the league.
Pundits have suggested that he could go on to win the Ballon d’Or next year based on his current form, and so it is no wonder that the Blues want to tie him down. Caicedo will hope to continue his impressive performances during Chelsea’s next game against Nottingham Forest.
Caicedo is currently on a wage of around £150,000 per week, which makes him still a way off Chelsea’s current highest-earner, who is Raheem Sterling on £325,000 per week even though he is not playing regular football.

The Colombian’s current contract is not so much of a worry in terms of when it expires, as it is due to run out in June 2031, however, the Blues are reportedly worried about the potential interest from Real Madrid, Man City and PSG turning the midfielder’s head.
According to TeamTalk, Chelsea are set to begin talks with Caicedo to agree a new contract with a higher wage bill in order to ensure he stays at Stamford Bridge, and isn’t tempted to leave to join one of the financial powerhouses instead.
It would be a huge move to sign the 23-year-old as he has arguably been the best midfielder in the Premier League so far this season, and certainly Chelsea’s best player under Maresca.
What has Caicedo said about his future at Stamford Bridge?
The Colombian midfielder has made it clear that he plans on staying at Chelsea for a long time, and that he wants to become a club legend alongside the likes of N’Golo Kante and Claude Makelele.
Caicedo told Tribuna: “It’s really nice that the fans love me, but I’m still far from N’Golo Kante or Makelele in terms of what they achieved at Chelsea. They accomplished a lot. I will keep working. I want to become a legend here.”
So far in his Chelsea career he has already achieved a lot, scoring six goals, and providing 10 assists in 107 games. He has also won the Europa Conference League, Club World Cup and Premier League Player of the Year award.
