Sacramento Kings pick up Devin Carter’s third-year option

The Sacramento Kings have exercised Devin Carter’s third-year option, according to a press release.

Carter, who was the 13th overall pick by the Kings in the 2024 NBA Draft, is owed $5.1 million in the 2026-27 season. Carter’s contract moves to a team option of $7.3 million in the 2027-28 season. The second-year guard averaged 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists last season in 11 minutes per game (36 games played).

In the first preseason game against the Toronto Raptors, Carter finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in 16 minutes. He was part of the fourth-quarter group that rallied to almost save a very underwhelming performance by the Kings. In the second preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Carter finished with 6 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal in 15 minutes.

Carter is likely one of the key players Doug Christie will test using as a backup point guard this season behind Dennis Schroder.
