Perfect Eagles offensive trade target may be available after fire sale rumors

The Philadelphia Eagles are far from the machine who was flattening teams in their Super Bowl run, mostly due to a middling offense that needs a shot in the arm as badly as anyone else in the league.

While offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo is to blame, along with quarterback Jalen Hurts taking a step back from last year, neither of them will lose their job anytime soon. All Howie Roseman can do is try to throw as many resources at the offense as he can before the NFL trade deadline.

The Tennessee Titans might be able to help the Eagles out in this regard, as the firing of head coach Brian Callahan has put them in a position where any and all expiring contracts can be acquired via trade. Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, pass rusher Arden Key, cornerback Roger McCreary, and tight end Chig Okonkwo are all available.

Of those three, the player who would make the biggest impact on the Eagles is Okonkwo, who has become one of the best receiving tight ends in the AFC. If Roseman gets on the phone with new Titans GM Mike Borgonzi, look for a deal to possibly be consummated.

Eagles should consider trade for Titans TE Chig Okonkwo

Okonkwo has caught over 50 passes in each of the last two seasons despite playing with a past his prime Ryan Tannehill and the always inconsistent Will Levis. With a rookie in No. 1 pick Cam Ward, Okonkwo is leading the Titans in catches and is still second in receiving yards.

While it looks unlikely that Patullo will be back for 2025, his offense has clearly placed an emphasis on getting the ball into Dallas Goedert's hands. Goedert is not guaranteed to be an Eagle for much longer, and Philly eventually needs to get their hands on a replacement.

If the Eagles like Okonkwo, they might inadvertently stumble their way into a long-term replacement. Why try to add someone via the NFL Draft when the best case of action might be letting Goedert and Okonkwo combine their might for the rest of 2025 before coming together on an agreement that makes Okonkwo the starter for 2026.

The Eagles have more NFL Draft picks than they know what to do with. While fans might be down on some of the recent trades Roseman has made after Tank Bigsby has almost never gotten on the field, Okonkwo's superior skills in an area of greater need should make this trade an easy win for Philadelphia.
