Ian Wright Visits ‘Brilliant’ Hill Dickinson as he Keeps Promise to Everton Women Star

Ian Wright paid a visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium last weekend to watch Everton Women face Manchester United.

The former Arsenal forward was amongst the 18,154 fans in attendance, stating that the stadium was ‘brilliant’.

Wright had previously promised Everton star Ornella Vignola that he would watch the Blues play next time he could.

True to his word, he travelled to Merseyside for the weekend’s fixture. Posting about the game on his social media account, he said: “My first time at the brilliant Hill Dickinson Stadium.

I promised Ornella Vignolla that I’d come to watch when I next could. Thank you Everton Women.

Difficult match for Everton but lots of new signings, a young team and owners who want to progress. I hope it all comes together for them this season.”

It was indeed a difficult match for the Blues as the visitors returned home with three points and a 4-1 win.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT BUT PATIENCE REQUIRED WITH YOUNG EVERTON SIDE

Marc Skinner’s United are unbeaten in the WSL this season, with four wins and two draws.

Everton meanwhile have just one win in six, with one draw and four defeats.

The visitors could have been three goals up inside the opening 15 minutes, until the Toffees scored against the run of play.

Honoka Hayashi reacted first to a poor clearance to score a historic goal at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees held on until just after the hour mark when Melvine Malard equalised for United.

An own goal from Hikaru Kitagawa demoralised the Blues. Substitute Jess Park then scored two late goals to compound Everton’s miserable afternoon.

A historic day ended on a somewhat flat note for Brian Sorensen’s Everton, with some harsh lessons learned.

However, as Ian Wright suggests, this is a team still learning to play with each other after a busy transfer window.

Next up for Everton Women is the visit of Nottingham Forest to Goodison Park on Sunday.
