John Terry says he played with a midfielder at Chelsea who was even better than Eden Hazard

John Terry’s illustrious career has seen him share the pitch with a whole host of Chelsea legends.

Captain of Chelsea for well over a decade, John Terry was at the heart of all the success that elevated the Blues to the upper echelon of English football.

Winning a title in his first season with the armband was an amazing feat, and one he would repeat another four times at Stamford Bridge.

The no-nonsense defender has a strong claim to Chelsea’s best ever player, but when asked, he names a teammate of similar pedigree.

John Terry rates Frank Lampard above the rest

Frank Lampard arrived at Chelsea right as Terry was breaking into the first team. The two would form the spine of the Chelsea side that dominated English football in the late 2000s.

Terry didn’t have to think much when asked who the best he played with was. He went straight for his fellow Englishman.

He said, bluntly: “I think Frank Lampard is the best Chelsea player of all time.”

Some may lean towards the man himself for that label, but you can’t blame anyone for picking Lampard. He could do it all on the football pitch and would be even more lethal in today’s game.

Imagine having Terry and Lampard now

Starting with the centre-back, what an addition he would be to Enzo Maresca’s side.

Not only as a leader and an enforcer, but as a composed head at the base of the side. Terry’s technical ability was ahead of its time for a central defender.

Lampard, too, would be some boost to Chelsea’s attacking output.

Maresca would have a hard time fitting him and Cole Palmer into the side, but that’s a happy problem to have. Unfortunately for Chelsea’s current talisman, he hasn’t done enough to earn the comparison.

Terry and Lampard are one of the Premier League’s greatest ever duos, the leaders of Chelsea in their day. Add them to today’s side, and it’s guaranteed silverware.
