The Green Bay Packers had plenty of talent on offense.
However, for years, the fans wondered whether they had a legitimate WR1.
With that in mind, they put an end to a decades-long streak of not taking a wide receiver in the first round.
Fast forward to today, and it’s clear why they were so high on Matthew Golden in the 2025 NFL Draft.
As pointed out by Kay Adams, the rookie out of Texas is special.
“Matthew Golden, breakout game. … We saw it in the run game, he had YAC on the short passes. We saw it with the deep ball. A little surf and turf, a little Yorkshire pudding, of all the things that we can expect from him, to the tune of 102 total yards on just five catches. These plays were in big performances,” Adams said.
Are we entering the Golden Age?

It’s nice to see young players getting better by the week, and that has been the case with Golden.
The Packers eased him into the offense, knowing they had more than enough weapons to get by while he got up to speed.
They limited him early in the season, but they look ready to unleash him now.
Whether it’s on short or intermediate routes, coming out of the backfield, on deep throws, or even on special teams, they continue to find ways to get Golden involved.
The Packers are about to have wide receiver Christian Watson back on the field.
While he was initially expected to be the primary weapon in the passing game, it shouldn’t be long before Golden takes over that role.
Though it may not happen this season or even the next one, with his big-play ability, he will be looking at many more great games in the future.
