Roy Keane is undoubtedly most well remembered for his 12-year stint at Old Trafford as the Manchester United captain, giving no mercy, a trait he still has to this day as a pundit.

However, after hanging up his boots in 2006, and before picking up the mic, the former Ireland international tried his hand at management, starting off at Sunderland.

That said, he didn’t stay completely off the pitch whilst managing The Black Cats, as Sunderland have now taken to their X account to share an image of their former manager in goal in a training session, as explained by the man himself over a year ago.

Last year, saw the ex-United midfielder join his old teammates Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney as well as Ian Wright on The Overlap, recounting the ridiculous, and very Roy Keane situation he found himself in whilst managing at the Stadium of Light.

Setting up the scenario for Keane to explain, Gary Neville described a situation during his management stint, saying: “After Craig Gordon had a poor performance, Roy [Keane] lined up 8 to 9 players to try and beat him from 25/30 yards out.”

Neville continued: “If they scored, he’d give them £1k, if they missed they gave him £100. He made £800 pounds from the session.”

Without missing a beat, Keane responded to the situation saying: “Do you know what, I made £800 or £900, but I probably lost the dressing room.”

As Ian Wright broke into hysterics, Keane continued: “Do you know what? Management.”

When asked how the situation came about, the former Ireland international explained: “We were at pre-season, we were playing down in the Algarve somewhere. We were playing a friendly match, and Craig’s in goal, and there was a free kick about 40 yards ou,t and he gets beaten from 40 yards out.”

He continued: “After the game I went, and he had a wall, I said, ‘What have you got a wall for? Like f****** miles away. I tell you, I’m going to go in goal tomorrow’ and you try and have a bit of banter as well, you know what I mean, a bit of fun, but it’s pre-season!”

When Wright asked if Keane was paid the money, he explained: “Funnily enough, they were slow in paying me, and this is where it kinda backfired a little bit, so the next day we had another friendly, as you do, you play two or three games, again it was down in the Algarve.”

Keane continued: “And the next game we were playing, and I was thinking ‘No one’s f****** paid me yet’ and it was halftime and I think the game wasn’t the way out I was hoping it was going.

“So I’m having a go at the players and I went ‘Listen lads, you f****** need to do better’ and I went ‘and I better get my f****** money tonight'”

The room broke into complete laughter with Keane adding: “‘I mean you’ve got to pay me that money tonight, I’m f****** telling you’. 8 or 9 lads came up top me after the game and gave me ‘F****** about time’ I swear, cause I would have had to have paid them, but that was, year…”
