Chelsea will get the opportunity to do some incoming and outgoing business in the January transfer window
Chelsea won 2-1 at home to Liverpool in their last Premier League outing before the international break. Moises Caicedo and Estevao got their goals against the Reds as they secured an impressive three points over the champions at Stamford Bridge. Their latest victory should give them confidence ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
Enzo Maresca’s side are having to juggle their domestic duties with Champions League football this season. They are back in league action this weekend as they look to build some momentum. The Blues face an away trip to The City Ground to play Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo wanted by Real Madrid
Chelsea midfielder Caicedo is on the radar of Real Madrid, according to a report by TEAMtalk. The London outfit could face a battle to keep hold of the Ecuador international down the line amid attention from the La Liga giants. He is under contract in London until 2031 meaning he still has plenty of time left to run down on his deal.
Caicedo, 23, was snapped up by the Blues back in 2023 to bolster their midfield ranks. He injects valuable quality into their starting XI and is one of their most prized assets. Maresca will be desperate to keep hold of him for as long as possible and won’t want to lose him anytime soon.
The Santo Domingo-born man started his career at Independiente del Valle and rose up through their academy ranks before breaking into their first-team as a youngster. He then left South America for England back in 2021 when Brighton and Hove Albion spotted him. The Seagulls initially loaned him out to K Beerschot VA in Belgium to get some experience under his belt.
Upon his return to the AMEX Stadium, he became a key asset for their senior team and went on to play 53 matches before Chelsea came calling. The Blues forked out a hefty £115million to land him, breaking the British transfer record at the time. He hasn’t looked back since and has made 107 outings, chipping in with six goals.
Chelsea should propose Aurelien Tchouameni swap deal
Losing Caicedo would be a damaging blow for Chelsea. If the size of Real Madrid and the prospect of a new challenge in Spain turns his head, they would need to find an adequate replacement. Step forward Aurelien Tchouameni, who would benefit from a change of scene.
The Blues should try and get the France international in return as part of a swap deal if Xabi Alonso’s side make a serious swoop for Caicedo. That would mean they can instantly fill the void left by his exit and would have a useful player joining them. He has been playing his football at Santiago Bernabeu since 2022 and has won everything with Los Blancos.
He should now try and test himself in the English top flight to show what can do. As well as Spain, he has also played his his native France in Ligue 1 with both Bordeaux and AS Monaco. He has made 156 appearances for Real Madrid to date, 10 of which have come this term, and has found the net on five occasions.
Chelsea will be in good spirits after seeing off Liverpool and will be hoping for more of the same against Nottingham Forest up next. Postecoglou is already feeling the pressure with the Reds and another loss on Saturday would further turn up the heat. He was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year, despite guiding them to Europa League glory against Manchester United.
