The Packers significantly bolstered the pass rush this summer, acquiring All-Pro Micah Parsons in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys on the eve of the 2025 season kicking off, and general manager Brian Gutekunst may have the opportunity to recoup some draft capital ahead of the NFL trade deadline next month.
Parsons has been about as impactful as anticipated, logging 2.5 sacks through the Packers’ first five games while adding 29 total pressures, which is fourth most in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.
As the November 3 deadline looms, it could be another Packers pass rusher who could be on the move, judged to be expendable thanks to Parsons’ presence.
Could the 49ers trade for Packers’ Rashan Gary?

After the San Francisco 49ers lost edge rusher Nick Bosa for the season, general manager John Lynch is expected to leave no stone unturned trying to upgrade the pass rush, in his absence.
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler, Packers EDGE Rashan Gary could emerge as one of San Francisco’s top targets.
“If the Packers won’t part with Gary — and I don’t think they would,” Fowler writes for ESPN. “They have pass rusher Kingsley Enagbare, a former starter who’s relegated to a reserve role in a contract year. Pass rusher could elicit the most movement on the trade market overall, and I suspect San Francisco will be involved to some extent.”
It is noteworthy that Fowler believes the Packers could move on from Gary, which could be partially fueled by Lukas Van-Ness’s emergence this season and Parsons’ impact.
Gary, 27, has posted 4.5 sacks so far this season, but if Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur view hm more of a luxury than a centerpiece, and the 49ers are open to trading an early-round draft choice, a move could be more valuable to the Packers’ future than keeping him opposite Parsons in Jeff Hafley’s defense.
