Once again, the Cleveland Browns appear to be headed for a very high pick in the NFL Draft. Despite hopes that the team could be a sleeper playoff contender, they are just 1-5 on the season after six weeks.
Due to their slow start, the trade rumors have started to pick up steal. Already, the Browns have traded both Joe Flacco and Greg Newsome. More trades seem likely to be on the horizon.
With the trade chatter starting to pick up in Cleveland, Myles Garrett’s name has started being tossed around as a potential option. After publicly requesting a trade at the beginning of the 2025 NFL offseason, the two sides were able to work things out with a four-year, $160 million extension. Some believe that Garrett and the Browns could still part ways.
Despite the rumors, one Cleveland insider has taken a moment to pour cold water on the rumblings.
Zac Jackson of The Athletic shared his opinion on the rumors. For the Browns to even consider making a trade, the asking price would be insanely high.
“Only a team offering three first-round picks for Garrett would make the Browns even begin to start crunching the numbers, and the Dallas Cowboys likely won't do that,” Jackson wrote. “Garrett spent the end of last season and the start of the offseason telling the truth about the state of the Browns and saying he wanted to play for a contender, but then he chose to sign a new deal that likely will keep him in Cleveland at least for the next three seasons - and potentially for the rest of his career.”
Basically, there is an almost zero percent chance that Cleveland would be willing to entertain trade offers for Garrett. No team is going to be willing to give up three first-round draft picks in exchange for a 29-year-old pass rusher.
So far this season, Garrett has gotten off to a strong start to the year. In six games, he has recorded 23 total tackles to go along with four sacks. Unfortunately, the team as a whole has not played well.
There are a few other players on the roster who could be trade candidates. Among them are Jerome Ford and possibly David Nook, although the Browns would likely prefer to keep the talented tight end on the roster.
Expect to continue hearing rumors surrounding Cleveland. However, it would be wise to go ahead and cross Garrett off of the list of potential trade candidates leading up to the deadline.
