Pittsburgh Steelers Have Brutal News for 3rd-Leading Receiver

The (4-1) Pittsburgh Steelers play on the road against the (2-4) Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium on Thursday Night Football. The team did not practice on Monday but released an estimated injury report, followed by walkthroughs on Tuesday. The Steelers wrapped up the short week by holding a final walkthrough on Wednesday before releasing the official Week 7 injury report.

Calvin Austin III suffered a shoulder injury during the fourth quarter of Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin and was immediately taken to a hospital for further evaluation. The good news is that the underrated receiver avoided a significant injury after X-rays came back negative. However, Austin did not practice last week and sat out in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns.

Calvin Austin III was estimated as a non-participant during the short week. According to Brian Batko of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers have already ruled out their third-leading receiver against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football. This will be the second game Austin has missed in the young season.

One major Steeler practice report update today: Calvin Austin III (shoulder) is out again, but that’s no surprise. Starting safety DeShon Elliott is questionable because of a personal issue after not practicing Wednesday.

Scotty Miller and Roman Wilson will see their roles increase in Week 7, while the Steelers will likely utilize all four tight ends. Miller played 44% of snaps in Week 6, while Wilson played 25%, and neither player was targeted one time. Finally, Darnell Washington played 80% of snaps, Jonnu Smith played 69%, Pat Freiermuth played 36%, and Connor Heyward played 10% last week.
