Manchester United plot raid on Saudi club for €65-68 million-rated summer arrival

Manchester United are plotting a raid on Al-Qadsiah to sign former Atalanta attacking sensation Mateo Retegui.

Manchester United are looking to add more firepower to their attack, and they have their eyes set on Mateo Retegui. According to a report from Fichajes, the Red Devils are gearing up to make a €50-60 million offer to sign the Italian international.

Retegui made a name for himself while playing for Genoa. He backed it up with a sensational debut campaign at Atalanta during the 2024/25 season. In his 49 outings, he bagged 28 goals and nine assists. He finished with 25 goals in the Serie A, helping him win the Golden Boot.

On the back of his impressive performances, multiple top clubs were keen on his signature. However, Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah managed to beat the competition. They ended up signing him in a deal worth around €65-68 million.

Since making the move to the Middle East, he has been involved in a total of five matches and has contributed towards three goals. While his contract there runs until the summer of 2028, the 26-year-old has already been linked with a return to Europe.

United want to sign Retegui

He is unlikely to go anywhere during the course of the ongoing season. However, that could change next summer depending on the financial offer and the player’s desire. Manchester United are the ones keen on his signature, and they could look to lure him away from Al-Qadsiah in the future.

The Red Devils forked out a fortune to reinforce their attack in the recently concluded transfer window. Despite having added a lot of firepower in the summer, the Premier League giants are still on the lookout for more.

They are looking to bring in a proven goal scorer, and last season’s Serie A top goal scorer is quite high on their wishlist. He has a completely different profile to the strikers they already have, and they believe the 26-year-old has what it takes to succeed in the English top flight.

As per the report, United could be open to forking out €50-60 million to sign the Italian striker. While it is a touch lower than what the Saudi side paid to sign him, they could still strike a deal with Al-Qadsiah if they negotiate well.

The Italian forward is enjoying life in the Middle East, but an option to return to Europe and play for one of the biggest clubs could certainly entice him.
