New York wide receiver Garrett Wilson suffered a concerning knee injury on the penultimate play of the Jets’ 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Wilson underwent MRI testing to determine the severity of the injury on Monday. He avoided a longterm injury, but is still reportedly expected to miss at least a couple weeks with a hyperextended knee.
Initial reports indicated that Wilson could be back after the Jets’ bye in Week 9. But on Wednesday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn provided a more encouraging update on his wide receiver’s timeline.
Glenn said Wilson won’t practice on Wednesday, but refused to rule him out for Sunday’s Week 7 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
“Glenn won’t rule out Garrett Wilson (knee) for the game, only for today in practice. Chance to play? ‘We’ll see how he progresses’ during the week,” team insider Rich Cimini of ESPN reported.

Through the first six games of his fourth NFL season, Wilson has reeled in 36 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns. He’s been one of the lone bright spots for the Jets, who’ve opened up their 2025 season with a league-worst 0-6 record.
Jets quarterback Justin Fields completed just nine passes for 45 yards in Sunday’s Week 6 loss to the Broncos, taking nine sacks throughout the game. On Wednesday, he was asked about Wilson’s potential absence in Week 7.
“I mean if he can’t go, of course that’s going to be a blow for our offense,” Fields said. “But it’s the next man up mentality. Some guys are going to get opportunities on the offensive side of the ball to make some plays.”
Wide receivers Josh Reynolds and Allen Lazard are questionable to take the field on Sunday, opening the door for players like rookie WR Arian Smith.
Sunday’s Week 7 matchup against the Panthers will kickoff at 1 p.m. ET.
