Bright stands behind the Chelsea evolution under Bompastor

Millie Bright reflected on the tactical flexibility that **Chelsea**have been developing at the back.

The returns of Niamh Charles and Lucy Bronze from ankle and tibia injuries have been a reminder of the depth of options that are available to Sonia Bompastor in her defensive unit. The Blues have been willing to work with different setups, switching between a back three and back four under the head coach.

Bright sat in the middle of a back four in both legs of the semi-final against **Barcelona**in April, losing 4-1 in both legs. She hopes that the story this year will be different, with the extra tools in the armoury.

The central defender embraces the challenge of trying to master playing in both systems, believing that it could be one of the keys to getting over the line in the Champions League for the first time in the history of the club.

“I think it's something we've done over the years, but I think it's something that every team has in its locker. I think at this level, you have to be adaptable. You have to be able to play in different ways.

“I just love playing football and love playing and being with my teammates regardless of what shape we're in, but I think, yeah, both offer very different things. It kind of depends on what we're coming up against, but I think it's another string to our bow, and I think it's good to have.

“It takes a bit of adapting to start with new connections, but everyone is really willing to learn in this environment. I think that's the most important thing. You've got to be adaptable, find different ways to beat the opposition, and sometimes a change in shape is required, but it's good to be able to do both.”
