Patriots leading pass rusher dealing with new injury

FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots defense is hurting at the beginning of this week.

On Wednesday, the team was without its leading pass rusher as Harold Landry missed practice due to an ankle injury. The team was also without one of Landry’s backups as Anfernee Jennings missed practice with an ankle injury.

The Patriots were also without starting safety Jaylinn Hawkins, who missed practice with a hamstring injury.

Heading into this matchup against his former Tennessee Titans team, Landry is tied for eighth in the NFL in sacks with 4.5. He is also tied for eighth in the league in quarterback hits with 11. The veteran leads the Patriots in both defensive categories, along with tackles for loss with six.

Last weekend, Landry made a sack and finished with two quarterback hits in the Patriots win over the Saints.

The Patriots went into that game with limited depth at edge rusher, with Jennings (ankle) and Keion White (elbow) out due to injuries. On Wednesday, Jennings remained out while White returned to practice.

This is Landry’s first time on the injury report. Other new Patriots injuries include receiver Stefon Diggs (chest) and tackle Morgan Moses (hip). Both veterans were limited on Wednesday.
