Al Horford was loyal to the Boston Celtics for seven seasons and helped them earn their latest NBA title.
But this summer, he was ready to move on and signed a new contract with the Golden State Warriors.
Now, the reasons why Horford left are being revealed, and they aren’t too surprising.
According to Nick Friedell, Horford said the “financials” and injury of Jayson Tatum were a major part of his leaving Boston.
Apparently, Horford simply didn’t think the Celtics could compete for a championship again.

This is essentially what most people suspected when it became clear that Horford was departing from Boston.
The team’s financial situation was no secret, and it was a consequence of putting together such a strong roster.
They were spending a lot of money and couldn’t keep doing that, so they had to shed some contracts.
On top of all that, Tatum’s injury was earth-shattering and completely changed everything about this team.
The team’s chances aren’t totally gone, but they are certainly harmed without Tatum in the lineup.
Finally, Horford didn’t see the Celtics going all the way to the Finals again, and he wanted to play for a team that could compete at that level.
It remains to be seen if he made the right choice by going to Golden State, because they have their own set of problems, and getting a title could be out of reach for them as well.
Regardless, Horford leaves behind a favorable record after his years in Boston.
During his time with the team, he averaged 11.2 points and 6.8 rebounds.
The fans are sad to see him go, but they are thankful for the time they had with him and are wishing him the best.
Although if the Finals are a matchup between them and the Warriors, they will definitely throw that goodwill out the window.
