KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Rookie left tackle Josh Simmons did not practice Wednesday as the Kansas City Chiefs begin preparation for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Details surrounding Simmons’ absence remain sparce as the Chiefs provided few details Wednesday. Simmons missed Sunday night’s game against the Detroit Lions due to a personal matter, which was first reported hours before kickoff.
“As far as the Josh Simmons situation goes, I’m not going to comment on it today,” head coach Andy Reid said. “(General manager) Brett Veach is handling everything there and we’ll leave it at that.”
Reports from NFL Network said Simmons flew home to California on Sunday, but when he’ll return to Kansas City remains unclear. On Wednesday’s injury report, Simmons was a ‘DNP’ for non-injury related personal reasons. Fellow rookie running back Brashard Smith (illness) was the only other member of the 53-man roster who didn’t participate.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes declined to disclose what, if any, conversations he’s had with Simmons since his departure.
“I’ll keep conversations between us,” Mahomes said, “I’m praying for him. I’m praying for all my teammates and I’ll just keep everything else private.”
Simmons, drafted with the final pick of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, had started every game this season at left tackle. In his absence, Jaylon Moore played left tackle for the Chiefs. Moore would be in line to start again Sunday against the Raiders if Simmons is not available.
