Las Vegas Raiders first-round running back Ashton Jeanty is just six games into his rookie season, and there's already some "fake news" circulating about him , which he personally debunked on Wednesday during his media availability.
A viral rumor on social media claimed that when Jeanty was a kid, a restaurant owner used to give him free meals. Years later, after hearing that the restaurant was on the verge of bankruptcy, it had been reported that Jeanty allegedly donated $98,000 to save the business.
The story was shared widely online, garnering thousands of likes and reactions on social media. But when Jeanty was asked about it directly, he made it clear that the story isn't true.
"That's not accurate. A lot of fake news out there," Jeanty told reporters. "I do give back, but even then I'm working on starting a foundation. I think giving back is important, for sure."
Jeanty signed a four-year, $35.9 million rookie deal with the Raiders after a historic collegiate career at Boise State, where he became a Heisman finalist in his final season and helped lead the Broncos to the College Football Playoff.
During his junior year, Jeanty rushed 374 times for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns, averaging 6.4 yards per carry and picking up a first down nearly every other touch.
Now, through six games with the Raiders, Jeanty has logged 105 carries for 424 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 4.0 yards per carry, while also adding 14 receptions for 73 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
