Reaction continues following Titans’ firing of Brian Callahan

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - It’d been quite the 48 hours for the Tennessee Titans with several changes, all ahead of a highly anticipated matchup.

We know Brian Callahan is out as the Titans’ head coach, after the team announced on Monday that they’d be parting ways with the second-year coach. What we didn’t know was what the reaction inside the locker room would sound like.

Quarterback Cam Ward has been vocal all season about his desire to play under Callahan for the foreseeable future. Callahan’s exit is the complete opposite of what was preached all off-season by Ward, who said he wanted continuity in the organization.

Just six games into his career, Ward is on head coach number two, with a third to come following any future hirings by the Titans.

The change in leadership may not have affected things day-to-day, but it was felt throughout the locker room.

“The biggest thing you feel for him just cause of what he’s done for me to get to this point. Through the draft prep, the offseason training camp work, I feel for him,” said Ward.

Defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons was also asked his reaction to the news of Callahan’s firing.

“I was shocked at first, especially so early in the season, but it happens, it’s the business we’re in, and we all have a job to continue to play at a high level,” he said.

Running back Tyjae Spears, who was recently activated to the 53-man roster after opening the season on injured reserve, also shared his reaction.

“It always sucks, especially the leader of our team. It gets you thinking of all the things you could’ve done better. We got to keep on moving forward, though,” said Spears.

The firing came on the heels of former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel’s return to the Music City.

Tennessee is still on the hunt for its first home win since week nine of the 2024 season, which also came against the Patriots.
