Phil Parkinson pleased by unexpected Issa Kabore boost ahead of Stoke City vs Wrexham

Wrexham face Stoke City on Saturday and have been handed a surprise boost on the Issa Kabore front pre-match.

Issa Kabore has been a standout performer for the Red Dragons following his deadline-day move from Manchester City.

If Wrexham are to enjoy success in the Championship, it’s imperative their wing-back steps up, and Kabore has certainly done that in his brief time at the club.

He’s already earned three assists in four matches and is expected to feature when the Welsh outfit face Stoke City on Saturday.

Issa Kabore returned to Wrexham earlier than planned

The meeting with Stoke is Wrexham’s first after the October international break.

Nathan Broadhead and Kieffer Moore shone for Wales during the break, while Kabore was in action for Burkina Faso.

However, the wing-back was suspended after picking up a yellow card last week versus Sierra Leone, meaning he missed his country’s last fixture and returned to Wrexham early.

On Kabore travelling back to the Racecourse Ground earlier than anticipated, as per the Leader, Phil Parkinson said: “It’s been good to have Issa back a little bit earlier than first anticipated,” added Parkinson.

Wrexham interest in signing Issa Kabore permanently

As expected, given his excellent showings so far, Kabore is becoming a fan favourite in North Wales.

His loan deal is due to expire at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, when he will return to the Etihad Stadium.

However, Graeme Bailey has previously told The Wrexham Insider that Wrexham would love to keep Kabore around long-term.

He said: “Issa Kabore has been outstanding for Wrexham, them getting him to drop into the Championship was a major coup and they are delighted with how it has gone. Clearly Wrexham would love to keep him, but nothing is decided yet.

“City are keeping tabs on him and will assess. Let’s not forget City are not blessed with many right-back options so could we see him get a chance? Unlikely, but let’s see how it goes in the coming months.”
