The Jacksonville Jaguars had a golden opportunity in Week 6 to continue their rise in the NFL and prove they're a playoff-worthy team by defeating the Seattle Seahawks. Instead, they suffered an ugly loss that was largely self-inflicted. Once again, penalties and dumb mistakes plagued Jacksonville, and the Seahawks took advantage.
There were plenty of losers during Week 6, from the secondary and special teams to the offensive line, and many of them were a surprise. The Jaguars previously had a solid offensive line, and the defense has largely been winning games for Jacksonville all season.
Yet it wasn't all bad news; Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has struggled throughout the season, though he's been steadily improving a bit each week. And their loss against the Seahawks was no exception; in fact, the fifth-year quarterbacks' performance was one of the few bright spots in Week 6.
The Jaguars saw exactly what they needed from Trevor Lawrence in Week 6
The New York Times' Jeff Howe released his weekly quarterback rankings, and despite the loss, Lawrence fell just one spot to No. 16 - and was singled out by Howe with a heap of praise for how well he played in Week 6, despite everything imploding around him.
"Trevor Lawrence has been taking more ownership of the Jaguars' offense of late, which was a primary focus before the season. When his receivers aren’t open, especially on money downs, Lawrence has done a better job of extending the play or scrambling for yards," Howe wrote. "His raw, physical talent has been on display in those situations, according to an executive who recently studied Lawrence’s season. There’s still plenty for Lawrence to clean up — and the same can be said for the on-field mistakes that have added up around him — but tangible improvements are noteworthy this early under a new coaching staff."
The Jaguars will be heading to London in Week 7 to take on the Los Angeles Rams, and it will be a chance for Jacksonville to prove that their Week 6 loss was a mere aberration. And with Lawrence improving despite the loss, a win is that much more likely. Of course, the Jags will also need the offensive line and the wide receivers to step up. It would also help if the defense can make a few stops and create a few takeaways after failing to record one against the Seattle Seahawks.

Despite a slow start to the season, Lawrence has been improving week by week, particularly in his last several games. And he's getting better, even as the offensive line has crumbled around him, allowing 67 pressures and 10 sacks in just the past two games.
Lawrence hasn't always received the respect he deserves, especially this season as he navigates another new head coach and change of scheme. But he's quietly proving that the Jaguars weren't wrong to maintain their trust in him as the future of the franchise. And against the Seattle Seahawks, he'll have a prime opportunity to keep boosting his stock.
