Journalist Claims Chelsea“Want Another Forward”And“Big Name”Free Agent With 114 Career Goals Is Genuine Target

Chelsea hold a serious interest in Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Speaking to TEAMtalk, Jones said that, while Tottenham are also in the mix to snap up the Serbian on a free transfer next year, the Blues should not be ruled out as a genuine contender either:

“Look out for Chelsea, as one of the competitors. I have been told they are very much being kept in the loop over his next move as they want another forward to come in and he could be ideal for the summer.”

“Big-name, free agents is very much something they seem to be checking out at the moment.”

It would be an opportunistic signing

Chelsea’s sporting directors have shown in recent years that they are not against securing the services of players who they deem to be undervalued.

Tosin Adarabioyo was signed for nothing, while they have also recruited the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Buonanotte (on loan) more recently.

Vlahovic has scored 114 goals in his senior career to date and he only turns 26 in January, so his availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive target.

Chelsea could wrap up deals for multiple free agents

Vlahovic is certainly not the only high-profile player who could arrive at Stamford Bridge next summer without a transfer fee being paid.

It has been reported in the German media that Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano is on the club’s radar, while there is also longstanding interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Like Vlahovic, both Upamecano and Maignan will be out of contract at the end of the campaign. Of course, salary demands could scupper some of these deals.

Vlahovic, for example, is already the highest-paid player in Italy, while Bayern are not exactly paying Upamecano a low wage either. For that reason, Chelsea would have to consider breaking their current wage structure if they want to secure these free agents.
