Travis Kelce excelled recently for the Chiefs and launched 1587 Prime steakhouse in Kansas City.
A New York Magazine review noted high prices but praised the steakhouse’s food quality.
Fans defended Kelce and his high-end steakhouse on social media.
Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has been heating up of late. After a relatively slow start to the new NFL season — at least by his high standards — the All-Pro tight end has logged 13 catches for 139 yards and one touchdown in his last two appearances for the Chiefs. This includes Sunday’s 30-17 win over a Detroit Lions side that entered the game on the heels of a four-game winning streak.
Apart from still being one of the top tight ends in the NFL today, Kelce has also been making moves away from football. This includes his new restaurant in Kansas City, 1587 Prime, which he opened alongside Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes.

Kelce has a lot going on off the field. He runs a very successful podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, entitled “New Heights.” The Chiefs star also has other business ventures, which include a majority ownership stake in Garage Beer, an Ohio-based brewery. On top of that, Kelce is also in a very high-profile relationship with 14-time Grammy Award-winning artist Taylor Swift, with the newly engaged couple already making plans for their upcoming wedding.
Kelce’s latest venture, however, is 1587 Prime. The high-end steakhouse was opened in September in partnership with the renowned restaurant and hospitality company Noble 33.
“[It’s] just another thing that we want to bring to Kansas City, to be able to show our appreciation for the city, knowing how much they love their food and how much they love their football,” Kelce told People in an interview in April 2024.
On Monday, a review of the restaurant was published on The Cut by New York Magazine. An author named Mia Mercado dined at the steakhouse and gave an honest assessment of her experience.
In its headline, the review indicated that the author’s $241 bill at 1587 Prime was more expensive than her electricity bill. Mercado also pointed out that she was intimidated by the $33 Wagyu carpaccio, but that her $59 petite filet, the least expensive steak option on the menu, was “among the best-prepared steaks I’ve eaten.”
While the author’s review was generally positive, fans on social media took exception to her seeming lack of appreciation for the steakhouse’s pricing, including her comment about spending $31 on fries and ketchup.
Fans quickly rallied behind Kelce and his restaurant, expressing their strong opinion on how 1587 Prime is actually well-priced.
“Those prices are cheaper than Ruth’s Chris! Let the man have a nice steakhouse! Damn,” a comment on Instagram read.
“This is 100% normally-priced for a nice steakhouse in a big city in 2025. I’m so confused by this review,” said another.
“Wagyu for $65 Im in! This place looks awesome and it’s not overpriced for a steakhouse at all,” a user posted.
“He’s not allowed to buy a restaurant? You don’t have to go,” declared a supporter.
“This is actually well-priced for a steak dinner, for two…matter of fact, very well-priced,” pointed out another.
“801 Chophouse is my favorite in Kansas City and I think for my husband and myself our tab came to a little over $300. Sounds like this wasn’t a bad deal for high end dining,” shared a fan.
There has been no official response from Kelce or anyone from 1587 Prime addressing the New York Magazine review. However, the fans have made their opinion on the matter abundantly clear.
As for his football, Kelce will be back on the field on Sunday in a Week 7 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s another home game for the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, with kickoff set at 1:00 p.m. ET.
