The Premier League record that is good news for Man City and bad news for Manchester United vs…

Man Utd are back in action when they travel to face Liverpool FC in the Premier League while Manchester City host Everton.

Manchester United will go in search of a morale-boosting win when they travel to face Liverpool at Anfield this weekend. United defeated Sunderland in their previous match two weeks ago, but know they are in for a much tougher test against the reigning Premier League champions.

Liverpool have lost their last three matches across all competitions, though there is a Premier League record working in their favour that could make all the difference on Sunday afternoon. Arne Slot's side lost against Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, and Chelsea before the October international break, though those defeats all came on the road, and they have been flawless at home this season.

It is set to be a fascinating clash, and Ruben Amorim will hope his side can do something they have not done during his time in charge of the club if they are to get all three points.

Slow starters

Manchester United will hope to hit the ground running when they return to action this weekend, but they are winless in their last three matches following an international break. United were defeated 3-0 by Man City after the September international break, lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest following the March internationals and drew 1-1 against Ipswich Town after the November international break last year.

It means Ruben Amorim has not won the first match back after an international break as United head coach, with the last such victory coming under Erik ten Hag when they defeated Brentford 2-1 in October 2024.

A report from Squawka compared the record of every Premier League side in their first matches after an international break over the past five years and found that Liverpool sit second in the table, only behind Man City. In results of games immediately following an international break since October 2020, Liverpool have won each of their last four such matches, while their tally of 44 goals is the highest by any team during this span.

Pep Guardiola’s side are ahead by two points in this Premier League table, having lost only one of their last 17 Premier League games immediately after an international break. That came courtesy of a 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium last November.

They face Everton at home this weekend, who are rock bottom of the table with just 17 points from 19 such matches since October 2020. The Toffees have won just one of their last 11, although, they have only lost one of their last four following a run of five straight defeats.

Man City and Liverpool will both fancy their chances of home wins this weekend.
