Exclusive: Chelsea's plan for Geovany Quenda including his expected position at Stamford Bridge

After bringing in a number of talented youngsters already, Chelsea are set to welcome Geovany Quenda to the squad at the end of the season.

The Blues spent big money to beat Manchester United to Quenda’s signature, with Ruben Amorim a big fan of his after working with him at Sporting Lisbon.

Chelsea are finally starting to reap the rewards of Todd Boehly’s long-term plan to sign the best wonderkids in world football. Estevao Willian is starting to announce himself to the Stamford Bridge faithful.

Quenda is currently still with Sporting, however The Chelsea Chronicle understands that the plan right now is for the youngster to be part of the first team squad from next season.

Chelsea planning for Geovany Quenda to play as a winger when he joins this summer

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has exclusively told us that the Blues are picturing the Portuguese star to play on the wing, rather than the wing-back role United reportedly wanted him in.

He said: “It’s a different kettle of fish because Quenda’s got that European portfolio behind him. He’s shown in Portugal. He would be coming in not the finished article, but obviously more advanced in terms of where he is in his career than Estevao, I would argue. but very excited by him.

“Quenda’s doing really well, and the plan is for him to come in at the moment. Things may change coming into summer, but at the moment the plan is to bring him in. It’ll be interesting to see how they use him. I suspect he’ll be used as a winger rather than a wing back.”

As Quenda prepares for a new challenge at Stamford Bridge, he remains a key player for Sporting in the months before he departs.

Quenda enjoying strong 2025/26

Quenda made his name in the Champions League up against fellow future Blue Dastan Satpaev, impressing a number of big name pundits in the process.

Thierry Henry recently praised Quenda, and he sits on a goal and four assists in all competitions so far this season.

The issue for Enzo Maresca will crop up when trying to fit all of the promising young attackers into his side.

Kendry Paez is also set to be in the first team setup by then, with Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho and Estevao all looking for a place in the side too.
