CITC have been delivering PLPS sessions at Rosehill Methodist Primary Academy since September 2024, engaging students in physical education and supporting teachers in developing their CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
Bethan Tarver, PE coordinator, spoke about how the PLPS programme has supported her as a teacher, saying: “I think it is really important for teachers to develop their CPD further, especially if PE is a subject that they’re not that confident with.
“City in the Community are really good at supporting and coaching during the lessons, helping the teachers feel more confident.
“We’ve had lessons based in the classroom, and practical sessions as well so we can apply what we’ve learnt to delivering the lessons.
“CITC have created a really supportive environment which I know our teachers really appreciate.”
CITC work with the teachers each week, providing tailored training and guidance to each individual’s needs.
Coaches share lesson plans, talk them through each stage of the session and set them tasks and challenges each lesson, helping them develop their CPD.
The Premier League Primary Stars programme is delivered in CITC partner schools across Greater Manchester engaging pupils and teachers to help primary school children stay active.
During the sessions, the coaches deliver national curriculum PE lessons, extra-curricular activities, targeted interventions, educational workshops and more.
During the 24/25 season, PLPS worked with 5808 unique participants, giving each participant an average of 21.3 contact hours, helping them develop essential life skills and stay active.
With thanks to the Premier League for funding the programme.
