Aston Villa are hoping to secure to future of one of their most important stars
Aston Villa are looking to make steps to tie down one of their most important players as some of Europe’s biggest clubs being to circle.
The Villans sit 13th in the Premier League table after a mixed start to the season, but things were beginning to look up with four successive victories before the international break.
Unai Emery’s side have also made a strong start to their Europa League campaign with impressive victories over Bologna and Feyenoord, and are back in Premier League action away at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday before facing Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles next up in Europe.
Aston Villa prepare Morgan Rogers new contract as giants circle
According to reports by TEAMtalk, Aston Villa are ‘in talks’ over a ‘bumper new contract’ for Morgan Rogers and are prepared to make him the highest-paid player at the club in order to ward off major transfer interest.
The report states that multiple sources cite the increasing interest in Rogers, as TBR Football report that Liverpool have a ‘long-standing interest’ in Rogers, while Fichajes add that ‘PSG and Liverpool are fighting over’ Rogers, who is reported to be valued at €80million (£70m) by the Villans. Further European heavyweights said to be in the 23-year-old’s long list of admirers include Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
TBR’s transfer insider Graeme Bailey said: “Aston Villa are massively happy with Rogers, he has gone from strength to strength under Unai Emery.
“However, he has become a prominent figure for England and Villa know they need to reward him again, and he is in line to become their highest earner. Chelsea love Rogers, but I am told PSG are very much keeping tabs on him – they were hugely impressed with what he did against them last season, and have maintained a watching brief ever since.”
Securing Rogers new deal would be major for Aston Villa’s progression
Rogers may not have begun the season in the most scintillating form, but it is clear that securing the former Middlesbrough man on a lucrative deal at Villa Park is a major piece of business which the club need to secure before it is too late.
With several of Europe’s biggest clubs waiting for an opportunity to pounce, Villa must show Rogers what he is worth to them, as he could be an indispensable figure if Villa hope to continue challenging for a Champions League spot for years to come.
Villa do not want to sell Rogers and are prepared to offer him a deal which is in line with the £150,000-a-week earnt by the likes of Martinez, Ollie Watkins, Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans. With Rogers the youngest of those players, he could be the face of Villa’s next generation if they offer him what he wants and can convince him to stick around for the long run.
