Last season, Netflix rolled out its _Starting 5_ docuseries, and it has just made its comeback. Season two follows Jaylen Brown, Kevin Durant, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tyrese Haliburton, and James Harden. In episode three, Celtics legend Paul Pierce got some screen time, and his description of Victor Wembanyama is nightmare fuel for the league.
"Of course, Wemby, he's a product of Kevin Durant. It's like they went to the factory and said, 'Alright, we've got Kevin Durant, his career is coming to an end in the next few, so we need to get something bigger, better, taller, faster, and just as dynamic.' And they just went into the factory and built this dude." - Paul Pierce
Kevin Durant may be the most gifted scorer to ever touch a basketball. Being considered a "factory-built" version of him is one of the highest compliments you're going to get as an NBA player. We had never seen anything like KD before his arrival. Wembanyama [comes in as an upgrade](https://airalamo.com/wembanyama-quietly-shut-up-90-misguided-spurs-fans-two-games) to what was considered the ultimate model. So, how do you stop the player who stands to perfect perfection?
The funny part about the comment is what's left unsaid. Durantula is mainly known for his offensive prowess. He's a fine defender, but that's not his claim to the Hall of Fame. Wemby, on the other hand, is catastrophic on the defensive end, wreaking havoc and causing mayhem constantly when he's on the floor. The combination makes for a petrifying revelation.
Wembanyama could be the greatest player ever
--------------------------------------------
It's very important to understand that I haven't called him the GOAT yet. It's way too early for that, but people will still act like that's what's being said. But he clearly has the potential to reach those heights. Vic has every [tool and intangible necessary](https://airalamo.com/wembanyamas-mvp-chances-skyrocket-latest-prediction-comes-true) to climb the mountain to create a new peak in the echelon of greats.
Wemby walked into the league and averaged over 20 points in his first season. That's not easy. But he also blocked a bazillion shots, and that was just ridiculous. We were told that his defense would be ahead of his offense, but he demonstrated a high capacity for both from the very beginning.
Paul Pierce, also known as The Truth, has enough NBA cache to make these proclamations. He played between two of the most skilled eras in basketball history. Pierce came into the league when Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant were just getting started. He had to deal with the likes of Tracy McGrady and Dirk Nowitzki, some of the most talented players of their era.
However, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Kevin Durant came along soon after. He's seen a wide range of greatness up close and personal, so he's a qualified commentator. If he says that Wemby is a factory-made Kevin Durant, Wemy is a factory-made Kevin Durant.
