Two young superstars — one on the basketball court and the other on the big screen — recently shared they’d want to remake an Oscar-winning movie.
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards hosted the 1st Annual Believe That Awards Wednesday.
The award show included several categories such as the “They Got Next” (winner: Ben Shelton), “Hater of the Year” (winner: Noah Lyles) and “White Boy of the Year,” which went to Oscar-nominee Timothée Chalamet. The “Marty Supreme” star beat out Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise, Mr. Beast and Pat McAfee for the award.
When Chalamet, 29, joined Edwards, 24, via stream to accept the award, the NBA all-star urged Chalamet to consider him for a movie role if he starts directing films.
“Whenever you start directing a movie and, you know what I’m saying, you need somebody to be your main character, call your boy,” Edwards told the actor.
“I need to get my street cred up, seriously. It could be a Training Day reboot,” Chalamet replied.
“Training Day” (2001), which starred Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, is an action-drama film that followed a shady veteran LAPD officer as he trained a new naive cop during his first day in a crooked narcotics unit. Washington won the Oscar for Best Actor for his outstanding performance as detective Alonzo Harris.
“Let me be Denzel and you be the officer. We going to turn that mother------ up,” Edwards said.
Edwards appeared in Netflix’s “Hustle” alongside Adam Sandler. His meme-worthy performance showed that his talents span beyond the basketball court.
Chalamet, who has starred in the “Dune” franchise, “Don’t Look Up,” and “A Complete Unknown,” is a two-time Oscar award nominee. His next film, “Marty Supreme,” is set to release Christmas Day.
