Man United and Man City have missed out on a Championship duo as a Premier League rival snapped them up instead.

Ruben Amorim will likely rely on his most experienced players on Sunday to deal with the hostile Anfield crowd, but the United boss is always on the lookout for young talent who could become future United legends.

Last season, the Red Devils signed the likes of Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi-Martin, who are both developing well. They recently missed out on their next wonderkids, however, as a Premier League rival snapped up a duo from the Championship.

Brighton beat Man Utd and Man City to Palmer twins

They will be fairly unknown to many Premier League fans, but Middlesbrough’s Anton and Bailey Palmer have been highly rated in the Championship for some time now. They are yet to make their professional debuts, but the 16-year-olds have sky-high potential and were always going to get a chance in the Premier League.

Earlier in the week, TBR reported that Man United and Man City were among a group of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool, who offered deals to the Palmer twins; they hoped that the Middlesbrough duo would join their academy systems, but instead, they have opted to go elsewhere.

In a slightly controversial move, Anton and Bailey both decided to join Brighton; they will be eligible to sign their first professional deals when they turn 17 in November. They chose to join Brighton, who have had a record of developing players and selling them on for big money, rather than a bigger club like a Man United, which is a very mature decision for a couple of teenagers.

The midfielders will now hope to develop on the South Coast, and we could begin to see them taking over the Premier League in a few years.

Man United youngster impressing in the Championship

Looking at United’s current youngsters, Harry Amass has been impressing a lot this season in the Championship, as he decided to take the risky loan option to join the instability of Sheffield Wednesday; however, it seems to be paying off.

Amass has made five Championship appearances for Wednesday and is becoming one of their most reliable options in defence. Manager Henrik Pederson was quoted this week in big praise of the Man United loanee. He said: “I see a young man who is growing a lot right now.

“I see a young man who is mentally going to be stronger and stronger, and a young man who values the defensive stuff as much as the offensive stuff. This is what he has to do when he one day goes back again, and wants to take the next level.”

The 18-year-old has made just seven first-team appearances for Man United. But, if he is already performing well in the Championship, it may not be too long before he can break out into Ruben Amorim’s side.
