Ranked – Top 3 Everton Goals V Manchester City

The Toffees travel to the Etihad this weekend for a Premier League game against Manchester City.

Ahead of the trip down the East Lancs, we look at three great Everton goals against the Citizens.

3 – Demarai Gray, Manchester City 1-1 Everton. December 2022

Everton travelled to Manchester with just one win in eight as we starred down the barrel of a relegation scrap.

An Erling Haaland strike on 24 minutes could’ve opened the floodgates. The Blues held firm, however, and up stepped Demarai Gray just after the hour mark.

With the ball at his feet, Gray quickly recovers from a slip to unleash a thunderbolt into Ederson’s top corner.

A virtually unsavable effort that sent the away end into pandemonium. Vitally, the point left Everton two above the bottom three going into the New Year.

2 – Nikica Jelavic, Everton 2-0 Manchester City. March 2013

Perhaps best remembered due to a famous recording taken from the Lower Gwladys. Jelavic’s stoppage time effort sealed all three points in a superb Goodison performance.

Leon Osman’s first half opener wasn’t bad either – a 30 yard strike in front of the Park End. A Pienaar sending off on the hour made life tough for the Blues, with Jan Mucha putting in a memorable display.

With the Toffees holding on, a late Jelavic break hit City on the counter. It looked for a minute as though the forward had squandered his chance. ‘JUST F*****G HIT IT,’ demanded the Gwladys Street. And the Croatian international obliged.

1 – Tom Davies, Everton 4-0 Manchester City. January 2017

One of the most memorable Goodison Park goals of recent memory. Indeed, it was one of the most memorable games. New City coach Pep Guardiola wasn’t accustomed to defeats, but was on the end of a 4-0 drubbing.

With the Toffees two goals to the good courtesy of Belgian duo Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas, Goodison bounced.

The place was sent into raptures when teenager Tom Davies went on a mesmerising run from the right flank, before delicately chipping Claudio Bravo.

We had high hopes for the young midfielder after that game. Sadly, he never really reached those highs again.

Ademola Lookman added a fourth goal late on, another whose time at the club never panned out. Still, the lads put in a hell of a shift that day.

These are just a few great strikes from recent-ish memory. However, there’s been plenty top class efforts against City over the years. Another at the weekend would be sound.
