The Shotgun/Throwdown (10/16/25): WVU women’s soccer looks to keep unbeaten streak alive at…

Welcome to The Shotgun/Throwdown, your daily West Virginia sports roundup (that we didn’t already talk about in another article) with some sophomoric humor and daily distractions thrown in for good measure. And if there’s something we missed, be sure to talk about it in the comments.

The WVU women’s soccer team hits the road tonight to open its last regular-season road swing at Kansas. Kickoff’s set for 7:00PM ET on ESPN+ from Rock Chalk Park.

The No. 24 Mountaineers (9-2-2, 4-0-2 Big 12) haven’t lost since mid-September and sit third in the conference behind Baylor and Texas Tech. They’re unbeaten in ten straight and still pushing for a top seed heading into the postseason.

Taylor White was the star of last week’s comeback over Houston, scoring twice in the final ten minutes to steal a 3-2 win. That earned her Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Ava Arnold picked up Co-Freshman of the Week after assisting on both equalizers. White leads WVU with eight goals, seven assists, and 23 points — all top-five marks in the league.

Kansas (9-3-2, 3-3 Big 12) comes in off a 3-1 win over Iowa State, led by Lexi Watts with six goals and 14 points. The Jayhawks knocked WVU out of last year’s Big 12 Tournament in a double overtime quarterfinal, but the Mountaineers still lead the all-time series 10-4-2 and have taken five of seven in Lawrence.

Nikki Izzo-Brown’s squad has three matches left before the postseason, and they’ll try to make another statement tonight — keeping that unbeaten streak alive and the Big 12 race interesting deep into October.
