Celtics among top 10 most valuable NBA franchises

The Boston Celtics underwent a major change earlier this year when Bill Chisholm reached an agreement to purchase the 18-time NBA champions.

Chisolm and his ownership group bought the Celtics for a then-record $6.1 billion. According to Sportico, Boston is now worth $6.35 billion — a 12% increase from last year.

Boston’s valued worth puts it in the top 10.

Here are the other teams:

Golden State Warriors, $11.33 billion

Los Angeles Lakers, $10 billion

New York Knicks, $9.85 billion

Los Angeles Clippers, $6.72 billion

Boston Celtics, $6.35 billion

Brooklyn Nets, $6.22 billion

Chicago Bulls, $6.12 billion

Philadelphia 76ers, $5.61 billion

Houston Rockets, $5.53 billion

The Celtics weren’t the only team to sell this year. The Lakers were sold for $10 billion, which broke the Celtics’ sale record. The Portland Trail Blazers were also sold for $4.25 billion.

The trio of sales helped drive team values up.

According to Sportico, the average NBA team is worth $5.51 billion, a 20% increase from last year and a 113% climb from 2022.

The Celtics underwent several changes aside from ownership. They traded key players like Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to get under the second apron, while Luke Kornet and Al Horford left in free agency for the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors, respectively.

Boston will also be without Jayson Tatum for an undetermined amount of time as he recovers from a ruptured Achilles.
