Danny Murphy says he’s spotted a weakness in Jordan Pickford’s game that’s stopped him from…

Jordan Pickford has been a big talking point during this international break.

There’s been widespread debate about just how good Jordan Pickford is after he kept his ninth consecutive clean sheet for England, beating Gordon Banks’ record.

Ben Foster says Pickford is always ‘seven out of 10’ and that’s a good way to sum the Toffees goalkeeper up. He’s so consistent.

But, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy doesn’t think he’s a world class goalkeeper due to a couple of flaws in his game.

Danny Murphy says why Jordan Pickford hasn’t left Everton

Speaking on talkSPORT, Danny Murphy says there are multiple flaws in Pickford’s skill set that have prevented him from leaving Everton.

“I mean, he deserves his place and he’s he’s done lots of good things for England,” Murphy said.

“He’s got a good record. He’s not a top tier goalkeeper. When you think of Premier League, the best are Alisson, David Raya and Donnarumma. He’s not in their league,” Murphy said.

“And why is that? Because of the club he plays for not being up there?” Jim White asked.

“No, his presence is not as good at crosses. His crosses, commanding his box. He’s not as good as those. I mean, you’re talking about some of the best keepers in the world, by the way.

“Doesn’t mean he’s not a great goalkeeper. He’s a very good goalkeeper, but he’s been at Everton for a reason.”

Man United were prepared to pay £45m for Jordan Pickford

Pickford has had interest from around the Premier League and abroad during his productive career at Everton.

In fact, the Daily Star reported in 2023 that Manchester United were prepared to pay £45m to land his signature.

Ultimately, Pickford has never pushed to leave the Toffees and is now on the verge of signing a new four-year contract which will likely keep him at the club until he retires.

Clearly, he recognises that he’s at a massive club with great history and he can go down as a modern-day legend.
