George Pickens Sends Clear Message on Cowboys Future Amid Breakout Season

Throughout the first six weeks of the 2025 NFL season, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens has quickly emerged as one of the most dangerous receiving threats in all of football. Naturally, this has led to plenty of speculation on whether Pickens will remains in Dallas for the foreseeable future, or perhaps look elsewhere after the season, which he addressed on Wednesday.

The absence of CeeDee Lamb for the Cowboys has helped show that Pickens has quite clearly made the transition from a very good wide receiver to a great one, recording 525 receiving yards through the first six weeks, the third most of any player in the NFL.

Additionally, Pickens has been one of the best red zone threats in all of football, with an NFL-leading six touchdowns on the year.

Given that Pickens is in the final year of his four-year rookie contract, it sure seems as if the former Georgia product has put himself squarely in position to get paid in a major way, whether that be in Dallas or elsewhere, this coming offseason.

With this in mind, Pickens discussed a potential future with the Cowboys past this season when asked by reporters, sharing some of the reasons why Dallas may be a good long-term fit for him.

“I wouldn’t mind it,” said Pickens when asked whether he would be open to stay in Dallas long-term. “Like I said, the guys in the locker room are super cool. The energy is great. But like I said, I always want to showcase my talents, most definitely.”

Pickens did further add that since he is in the middle of the season, his looming contract situation isn’t fully on his mind at the moment.

“I’m definitely in the middle of the season,” added Pickens. “So I’m not fully thinking about it. I kind of just want to keep going and see how far we can get in the season as far as playoffs and all that.”

While Pickens wasn’t willing to fully declare that he would like to stay in Dallas moving forward, he also didn’t give any indication that staying in Dallas was out of the question. Given how productive Pickens has been thus far for the Cowboys, it sure seems like he should be quite happy about how his tenure has gone thus far.

Ultimately, it sounds as if Pickens’ future in Dallas will likely depend on how the remainder of this season goes. So it will be interesting to see whether the Cowboys can capitalize on the pairing of Pickens and Lamb while they have them and potentially entice the former second-round pick to stick around for the long haul.
